No Practice, Now What?

With the basketball season now come to a close I find myself with a LOT more time on my hands. Since I don't have practice Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays and no games I've gained an extra 10 plus hours in my schedule. I'll be honest, a lot of that I fill with homework and it was really nice not to have practice during midterms week. Most people might feel relieved but mostly I miss it. Practice is my favorite time of every day. We always say bring your best self to dance and leave all else at the door. It's freeing to have a space to release the stress of a busy college schedule and just laugh with your friends. Don't get my wrong, we work our butts off, but we do it with a smile. The bruised legs and achy muscles don't feel so bad when you have such amazing teammates to surround yourself with.

A goal of mine with all of my newfound time is to take some moments to reflect. I am such a go, go, go person. Always productive, always completing new tasks, always making lists of the things I need to do. My Google Calendar and planner are carefully scheduled with all of my commitments and responsibilities. I love a fast paced life and the organization it demands of me. There are so many things I'm passionate about, whether that's dance, my service sorority, my internship, clubs, being a campus tour guide, teaching fitness classes, or hanging out with my friends. I feel so lucky that college gives me the opportunity to pursue all of these amazing opportunities. However, I want to also find a balance of quiet moments for reflection and gratitude.

The past few months have taught me a lot about life. Life can be unfair. Bad things happen to good people and sometimes there is no explanation for the things that happen to us. But one thing we can do, that we can control, is focusing on what we are blessed with. I am incredibly grateful for my family, my friends, my education, my health - the list goes on. I think we all take too much for granted. Nothing in this life is guaranteed, ever. Everything can change in a blink of an eye. So live life with a heart overflowing with gratitude. Starting pursing your dreams NOW, don't let anything hold you back. This is your moment.

My new intention is to live life gratitude first. I hope you'll join me. It's a beautiful way to see the world.

 Till next time -

  1. I am so motivated after reading this post. The craziness of a busy schedule may be overwhelming at times, and I know that first-hand, but it's so important to be thankful for that busy schedule. With that said, I can definitely relate to how significant of an impact moments of reflection and gratitude can help me everyday.

  2. A fast pace life is certainly addicting, and one I enjoy myself. I can't imagine actually slowing down though. 10 free hours? Time to pick up that extra project or extra work shift. Time for another organization. Slowing down is insanely terrifying and I would be terrified to do so. I'm glad you can find things to be grateful for.
